The versatility of Majorca

By Samantha Brody

Majorca is a well-known holiday spot and has been for a number of years. With only a short flight from the UK to experience some of the most beautiful beaches and some lovely warm temperatures, the island is extremely popular. For some people though, Majorca has started to become less appealing because of resorts such as Magaluf and Palma Nova attracting younger people looking to drink and stay up all night. Majorca is however big enough to not see a single clubber and there are plenty of undiscovered parts which are just as beautiful and sedate as ever.

Bunyola has hardly been developed at all and still maintains its original charm. Instead of clubs and bars, Bunyola is full of traditional shops and other buildings with people going about their lives just as they did before the tourists flocked in. There is accommodation in Bunyola and the few tourists who do know about Bunyola go there to enjoy the same relaxing atmosphere that the locals do every day.

Cala Blava is similar to Bunyola but has a lot more potential for activities to do. The resort itself is very peaceful and secluded and the beach is usually quite empty. Cala Blava is only a short distance away from the more major resorts though and so people can travel to the shops and other attractions in the day before returning to their quite resort at night.

Cala Mesquida is another tranquil resort with one of the nicest beaches the island has. The beach in Cala Mesquida usually has a strong wind across it which makes it more popular with people looking to surf and windsurf than people looking to sunbathe and recover from their hangovers. It also has good transport links to other resorts.

Majorca is a beautiful island with a lot of versatility. Look on the internet and the first thing you see might be bars and clubs but look a little further and you will find some of Europe's most beautiful beaches and picturesque villages.
