It gets no protection from the sun and rain. I recommend The Cooper MS 100PG - it was precisely what I was searching for. It really works great and it is pretty cheap. Happy with my purchase and everybody who sees them agrees. Fantastic light. Or else, it's tough to press the spikes on the light connector deep enough into the reduced voltage main line. You can see much better in the dark with a little candle. Super easy to install while offering all of the safety of the standard light with no expense. The Pergola lighting also does not run during the day when there is sunlight so the battery lasts a very long time. They look extremely authentic with actual distressed glass, not plastic, round the cage. The light would go to full power just as I'm leaving the entranceway and also when I come up the walk from about twenty feet away.
I usually seemed to forget to turn off the light each morning, so I chose to try a light with a movement sensor. The quartz-halogen bulb isn't to be touched by bare fingers as well so using the nitrile gloves is an extremely wise decision. I love that they're not brass - brass doesn't do well so near to the ocean. It would appear that some of these lights aren't effective with CFBs, so you may want to look into the item description cautiously if you are considering using CFBs. You can also set the patio string lights to stay on for two minutes or thirty seconds, and choose a bright or dim setting. They work on just a couple of watts of energy and provide exactly the same light as a much-higher wattage standard bulb light. I will update this evaluation in a year or so, if Amazon continues to be promoting the units. I give it 3 stars not since it is bad, but since it is just average.
I will just wrap it with a little bit of electrical tape at the joint for further water proofing. Finding it extremely affordable, I instantly ordered one from Amazon. However, it really works great and I love having the template for drilling for screw holes. The light vapor seal glass is somewhat too long.

This is actually the second light of four that have no time and brightness changes. Threw the batteries in and mounted the light.
I live where there are no road lights, nor movement lights on the corners or sides of the house. Just using as a switched light. It only worked dusk to dawn, so I called Heath Zenith and I was told that the light is damaged.

Admittedly, once the LED window candles did work, they worked as I anticipated them to. The Pergola lighting also does not run during the day when there is sunlight so the battery lasts a very long time.
